Mike Wilds, affectionately known as “The Honorific’ Mike Wilds

Mike Wilds is one of Formula One’s most charismatic personalities. He is currently celebrating his 50th year in racing driving – quite an achievement and certainly has a story or two to share!

Born on 7th Jan 1946 in Chiswick England, he showed an early interest in all things mechanical. Mike followed his inspirations and has led a life full of excitement and challenge.

In 1974 he participated in eight Formula One World Championship Grand Prix, between 1974 & 1976 before focusing on other forms of motor sport, including sports car racing and historic racing.

Mike’s’ sports car racing career included driving at Le Mans 8 times, including C2 cars for Ecurie Ecosse (World Champion C2, 1986), and Group C for Nissan in 1988 with team-mate Win Percy. 2008 saw him racing a Porsche 962 and an Elva Mk5 in the 2008 Silverstone Classic.

Mike won the 2008 Britcar Drivers Championship together with Ian Lawson and Mike’s son Anthony Wilds in the ING Sport BMW. The team then went on to win again in 2013 and also won the 2008 Group C Enduro Trophy in the Porsche 962 with Henry Pearman.

Mike is currently still very much involved in motor racing and during 2015 is once again racing with ING Sport in an ex works BMW Z4GT3.

There have been many changes in the racing world and advances in technology have altered the face of driving since Mike first began his amazing career. Mike is a well regarded racing icon who has clearly been a figurehead in racing now for half a century!!
